  1. In China over 200 million tons of coal goes up in flames each year-which may be equivalent to America’s total carbon-dioxide emissions from gasoline.  India’s mine fires waste up to 10 million tons of coal annually.  The pollution has left much of the land in both countries uninhabitable. The high level of toxins in the air, also metallic & untreated chemical wastes dumped directly into the oceans is expected to only increase as there are no deterrents for these ‘developing’ nations all of which is compounding the ‘Global Warming’ problem..  Now experts are asking if controlling mine fires in Asia might be a key to reducing this global warming significantly.

Ultimately all countries, including these so-called ‘developing’ countries must stop avoiding responsibility & finding blame in others. All must address the issues of how we can help turn this tide before it’s too late.

  2. Looks like a lot of cities in China.  I was in Beijing in November and sometimes you couldn't see down the street even one block.  It can get pretty nasty, but hopefully it will clear for the games.

Javier, the Chinese would have to burn one heck of a lot of bodies to create that much pollution.  Yes, they may burn some bodies, but most of that pollution comes from burning coal as one of their main power sources and not keeping factory emmissions in check.  Every country has things that are bad about it.  You can keep going on after China all you want, but it's not the worst country out there.  There are countries that are far worse.

  3. It's not abnormal, some days are better than others. That pic looks like a slightly worse than average day.  Anyway, it'll be good for the Chinese altheltes as they train in that. It's like Kenyan's having an advantage on lower ground.

  4. All those smoke are produced by the gas chambers that the Chinese are using on the Tibetans. In the last 3 years while building for the olympics millions of Tibetans have been murdered, political dissidents have been shot in the streets of Beijing and Tibetan owned businesses burnt to the ground by chinese troops.

  5. Looks like a clear BJ day to me.

On a rough day I couldn't see the street from my 20/F hotel room.

  6. I thought you live in Beijing? The photo looks about right from when I was there in the summertime, but it has better days as well, especially after a downpour.
