I'm planning a trip to India in August (Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Agra) and I was wondering how the food is in India? What are some popular dishes that I might find in a typical indian restaurant? I prefer meat over vegetables. Thanks!!!

  1. food is beautiful in India...lovely curries & fresh crab & seafood...but make sure you take Immodium tablets for tummy problems - the food is good but it almost always upsets the tummy a little....we've been 5 times with friends & we were all grateful at times for the immodium!!

note: if you are a male...there is a new scam there...so do not let ANYONE touch your ears pretending that you have shaving foam on them...my hubby was left with a bruised & bloodied eardrum...not pleasant...so take care!

  2. Indian food is very tasty. When u visit delhi, especially try Dal Makhani and in Mumbai pls. try bhelpuri. it is a bit spicy but you will relish it.

  3. Same as anywhere else except it's all curried and cooked in ghee (refined butter).

  4. Um indian food can be very gross. Indian food is not normally recommended. I'd recommend staying and eating at a hotel.

  5. BE VERY CAREFUL

i went to india for 2 months on a trip to help build houses for young kids

i had diarrea for 5 weeks and i lost 14 kg during my stay

if you are not used to the food, dont eat it. im a great fan of indian food but make sure you go to touristical places. the food is good but spicy, dont try anything to fancy and make sure the place you are going to isint too sketchy.

and be careful with the water, its scarce and very rarely drinkable

  6. Everything is OK except water.

Especially, flied, boiled fish dishes are tasty.

    Have a nice trip !

  7. If you like Indian food then I think you will have a great time with the food in India. If you eat in good restaurants then you will be in good shape. I would suggest that you eat in restaurants at your hotel or pick places that look expensive (its still cheap if you convert to $). I think you can get a very good meal for two for less than US$15 (no booze)

Stay away from street vendors or places that don't look clean and always order bottled water. Make sure you open the bottle.

I live in the US and I know people who love Indian food here which I think is OK. In India, you will get fresh spices and other ingredients that are cannot be got elsewhere and the Indian food there is so much better.

Also, I would recommend that you try Indian-Chinese food. It something that you will find only in India. No Kung-Pao or Moo-Shoo. Its unlikely you will get Beef or Pork but you can try mutton (goat). Stay away from fish.

I hope you have a great trip and come back with some great memories.
