Is the football made of pig or cow skin?

always heard it called a pigskin.  but think they are made differently now.

It's actually called a pig skin because it originally was covered in a pig's bladder, but nowadays they are made out of multiple types of matierials. Here's an article explaining how the are made - both american footballs and soccer balls.
