Is the gas shortage causing any of you to stop using gaspowered lawn-mowers?

I mean it's SO much better for the environment! I stopped using one about 20 years ago.

I went to an electric mower first; but after mowing thru the cord a few times, I decided I needed something else. (I hear that now there's an electric mower that's CORDLESS!...& why not? with everything else electric that runs without a cord!!!

From there I bought a "REEL" mower. (now this is not for ppl with big lawns...but having a smaller one like most of us do---it's IDEAL!

I want to know if the cost of gasoline has pushed any of you over to these alternative mowers???

  1. what gas shortage? you mean the oil that we are buying from a differnet continent that our president happens to have stocks in that are driving up the price of gas prices? then no i still use a gas mower and weed wacker

  2. Not at all,I still use all 4 of my gas mowers.

    3 Toro self propelled

    1 Toro zero turn

I have raised my rates accordingly and re routed myself.I just pass the cost along like everyone else.

    My Best

  3. Prices maybe  yes.Environmet protection? How do you think your power provider makes electricity?

  4. used a pushmower especially my grandmother. But, we mow w/ gas to our content until we feel the job is perfect. We live on 5 acres though...

  5. i love my lawn mower! and my gas powered edger! man, my yard looks beautiful too! we had a freak t-storm dump about 3 inches of rain on us last night and i was so grateful! i dont have a sprinkler system, which is a great project, but still expensive. H2O bills are eating me alive. i live in hot old texas.

so, while i hear your concerns, the combustion engine mowers and edgers stay...for now....

  6. We  have lived in apartments for about 20 years, so when we moved to a house we had a reel mower from my grandmother, and our yard is pretty big, so my dad, who has back problems, would get sick every time he mowed, so we finally got a (corded) electric mower because they are:

    1.Better for the environment

    2.Gas prices

    3.Easier mowing

    4.Very quiet (no ear damage)

I have seen many people with small yards who do well with reel mowers and I think they are great, they hardly cost any thing (maybe occasional sharpening and oil).

  7. Even if gas was 5 dollars per liter it still would not have any effect on the less the 1 liter capasity of my gas mower which almost allows me to cut my lawn twice.

Secondly there is no gas shortage,  Its proven now that its just oil companies gougin prices.  Now that they see what we are willing to pay, they have no problem charging it.

  8. Not yet young lady............but when I was a young fella , I did my whole yard with a hand push reel..............and it looked like a golf green.....I loved it. But it must be sharp and well oiled and maintained or you will work you buttom off......good luck.......nite.

  9. I say there's nothing wrong with using an electricity powered lawn-mower, if you cant see the wire to avoid it, you definitely shouldnt go near anything petroleum powered
