Are we the people of these United States in control of our government? When is the last time that you were allowed to vote on any important issues, like universial health care, loser pay court systems, any of the thousands of laws that are passed every year, and all the new rules and regulations that are put into effect every year, being able to vote rather our paid officials get a raise or not, and when have we been allowed to nomanate who is running for president, these people are picked by the govenrment parties, they choose who we vote for to be president.

  1. Government?  We're talking about a den of thieves posing as government

  2. first of all you vote for the people that vote for new laws, etc, that is what congress is made up of, house of rep and senate. we do nominate who will be president what do you think the primaries are for? i think you need a lesson on US govt. no offense

  3. Yes it is out of control.  Who fault is it.  The voters that vote in the  Let them eat cake crowd year after year.  As we all should know their is no such thing as a free lunch.

  4. Yup, has been for quite a while.

  5. We live under a republic, not a democracy. We always have. If "we the people" are too feebleminded to vote for competent legislators and government officials, what makes you think allowing everybody to vote on every single issue would make things any better?

To put it another way, I look around and ask myself, "Do I really want this guy above/below me deciding which laws I should or should not obey, or which rules I should or should not follow?"

Another guy on here said you may need a lesson on how politics work in this country. I suggest starting with the Federalist Papers, specifically with what James Madison wrote in Federalist No. 10 on factions.

  6. The Government  cannot check Corporate Power it has been said and The Corporations like it that way.

Solar Power Socalism could end poverty and such problems if put to work as well as Global Warming.

  7. It is out of control on the federal level in the sense that taxation is too high, regulation is too high, government is too large & intrusive, there is too much business regulation, there is a lack of immigration control and the federal government has taken over responsibilities that are clearly the responsibility of the individual states (such as education, social programs, agriculture, etc.).  The Constitution grants very few and very explicit powers to the federal government and leaves all other rights to the individual states.

State & local governments are also out of control, spend too much and tax too much.

A country the size of ours can not function by having the people vote on every issue.  I do think that any raise in taxation at the federal level should be by a 3/4 vote of the individual states.  I also think that Congress should have term limits (2 terms just like the President).  Along with this we need to abolish our current tax system and implement a small flat tax or consumption tax.  This new tax should be applied to ALL Americans equally with everyone paying into the system.

We need to return to Constitutional rule, federalism, low taxation and the vision of our Founding Fathers.

  8. Ummm, yes!

However, you're off-track with the idea of the people voting on issues.  We elect representatives for a reason and it would be dangerous to start a trend of referrendums on everything.

However, what we the people do need to start doing is using our vote to oust these clowns and elect real Americans (not career politicians) to "represent" us.
