  1. to give themselfs another pay rise

  2. No they are doing it to make money and make the capital of London a no go area for drivers unless you are driving a Chelsea Tractor and cash is no object

  3. The Congestion charge is NOT levied by the government but by the Mayor of London. Proceeds from the charge do go towards improving public transport in London, and cuurent projects include extending the East London Line to Croydon,

purchasing new fleets of trains for the 'London Overground' inner suburban services, and contining to enhance bus services with higher frequencies, new routes and new buses.

Oyster pre pay fares have been frozen in 2008 at their 2007 level.

Only high polluting 4 X 4s and sports cars will pay the new charge; there is no increase for others, and no congestion charge is payable on weekday evenings or anytime at weekends or on bank holidays, so leisure journeys are in the main unaffected by the new charge too.

  4. Don't be silly - Ken Livingston is conning you all - ask him personally 'where has all the money gone'

1 - to pay for the company that monitors it

2 - to pay stupid money to London Transport staff

  5. No...just raise cash what else does this Government do.

  6. Just to be clear, the government doesn't levy the congestion change. Transport for London / Greater London Authority are responsible for the decision to implement it, to raise the price of it and any decisions about how to spend the income.

I've got no love for Gordon Brown, but this isn't his doing.

  7. No it's not.  It's so that the MPs can give themselves another H U G E payrise.

  8. No, i don't think they are.  I firmly belive that money from the congestion charges go into things like the mayor's Gherkin, the pathetic 2012 Olympic stadium, useless items that shows how wonderful London is supposed to be, rather than useful things like updating the appaling state of most of london's busses, ugrading the tubes and tube line safety and working on making train journey's faster, cheaper and less likely to break down.

The fact is this government seems to think that the money they con from us is their personal piggy bank, and are ruining the UK with their osessive spending on things that we have no need for.  Once the 2012 Olympics are over that stadium will become another millenium dome - a waste of time, resources, money and yet another ugly mark on our horizon.

  9. No

It is being used to fund the 2012 Olympics because they now know that the sums do not add up.
