Question:

Is the guitar just not for me or what?

I picked up the instrument when I was 16, for the first two years I played an hour or two a day and practiced hard. I enjoyed playing but then I got to a point where it got too frustrating and complicating for me to learn, I kind of like gave up. For the last three years I've been trying to get back into it but I don't know where I start from. Do I have to learn everything all over again or pick up where I left off? Or is the guitar just not for me? I love the instrument and it's something I really want to see myself good at, I adapted to it pretty quick and kept getting better but then it just fell apart. I never learned music theory or reading sheet music and it's something I can't teach myself with. Please help and give me advice if you can, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

  1. I went through the same phases.  I think that I am really getting better and then I see someone wailing at a local bar and I get frustrated.  Youtube has people that teach you songs slowly and in stages.  That is how I learned Sweet Child of Mine.

  2. try and get together with some other musicians and play. It'll force you to get a little better, through ambition, or embarrassment. Also, take a class at a junior college. Guitar classes are usually cake, and you're in a room with 20-50 people who suck as bad as you do.
