I'm looking into working for an insurance company, that deals with health and life insurance. Does anyone know if insurance agents get salary pay as well as commission when they work for a large insurance company?

  1. many times the companies will give you a small salary plus commissions.  Over 18-24 months the salary will decline until it zero's out.  By then the assumption is that your commissions will have surpassed the salary.  It is a relatively good job.  Just remember you are a sales person first and foremost.  You job will be to sell and service.

  2. my suggesting would be getting as much information as you can before taking any action, here is a good place for that purpose.http://lifeinsurance.online-helpers.info...

  3. Most Life and/or Health positions are commission only. Most of them are not in an office - but out in the field.

If you also have Property & Casualty (autos & houses) then an office position at an agency is possible - and they often pay a salary - and sometimes salary and commission.

If you're interested in Life insurance sales (no office) then I suggest:

    naadavies.com

They give you leads (people to sell to) and training if you need it & LOTS of support. It's where I started. I worked up a customer base & went out on my own - so I'm no longer with them, but it was a great place to start. I made approx $900/day with the Davies method.

No - I get no commissions for sending you to them - I no longer work with them

  4. They are paid a decent base, with a sales commission paid out as well.  Often times, the salary will increase each year, but then eventually because your sales will increase too, the salary will stop at a certain level.  You will find these jobs do provide benefits coverage, etc and you are free to manage yourself and work outside of the office too, due to the normal moving around that is required.

All in all a good career path!  And very routine, but yet dynamic due to the people aspect!

    Enjoy and good luck!

I don't know much about the health insurance industry, but in life insurance, there is a huge need for it. In 1980s, about 80% of families own life insurance. Today, less than 60% of American families own life insurance and 40% of them said they need more coverage, but can't afford it. Why the decrease in numbers? Its because the life insurance industry is slowly dying. There are many great companies in America, but the average age of an agent is in their 50's. Plus, not many people don't want to sell life insurance either, so its pretty hard to recruit people and build a new generation of agents. Those who do become agents may face quotas to meet.

Usually when you sell life insurance, you are only paid commissions.  Some companies may pay a small salary and commissions at the beginning to help you get started, but its usually all 100% commissions.

However, at the company I work at, its a different story. My company has over 100,000 licensed agents who can sell life insurance. They are not life insurance agents, but financial representatives who can offer that product to their clients. Life insurance plays a major role in building financial security. If you were the breadwinner and your family is dependent on your income, would your family be financially ok if something happens to you? If not, then you need life insurance.

Other things I do is help the client setup emergency fund, game plan to eliminate debt, and a game plan to retire financially independent. The best thing about what I do is that my company doesn't charge any fees. I earn strictly commissions from multiple products that my client buys (such as life insurance, debt elimination loan, investments). That is why there are so many people in the company because they all can earn income from multiple streams.
