  1. The Hobbit came before the Lord of the Rings.

  2. Silmarillion is where it all started, Hobbit is about finding the ring after that the trilogy comes, but yet there are i think seven books about this Tolkien imagination.

  3. No, The Hobbit is the prequel to the Lord of  Rings.

  4. The Hobbit comes before and tells the story of how Bilbo found the ring.

  5. The Hobbit came first.   Frodo's uncle Bilbo goes on a big adventure, during which he ends up all alone in a deep underground cave.  He runs into Gollum who has been hiding underground with the ring for centuries.  Bilbo escapes from Gollum, who wanted to kill him, and steals the ring, not knowing what it really was.  After the adventure, which involves stealing treasure from a dragon, he returns to the Shire with the ring.  He lives there for years and when he tires, the ring is affecting him, he gives the ring to Frodo which is where the LOTR picks up.

  6. The Hobbit is actually the beginning when Bilbo was a much younger man and tells how he acquired the ring in the first place.

  7. If you remember, an old bilbo gave the ring to frodo in the fellowship of the ring.

the hobbit explains how young bilbo came to be in possession of the ring in the first place (Smaug)
