  1. well i live really close to new orleans (like 45 minutes) and alot of people say it is scary. i hate going on it because its really old and very narrow. and it was built from both ends leading up to the middle and it was measured wrong and the middle is off.

  2. If you drive an economy car, probably not. If you're used to Jefferson Parish traffic, probably not. If you don't drive an economy sized car and aren't used to Jefferson Parish traffic, it's like dodging bullets.

The posted speed is 45, and most locals seem to drive at a speed closer to 70 when the bridge is reasonably clear.

Driving a pickup with a 36 cubic yard dump trailer across it several times a day wasn't particularly good for my nerves. When you have lanes that are only 9' wide, drivers that don't care if they run someone up onto a curb that's 18" high when they change lanes and won't so much as slow down if they take a mirror off, facing it on a regular basis gets to be a little frightening.

It isn't anything I look forward to repeating in the future. I'm never certain if I would relish giving my big, dumb, water hating dog a bath or maybe look forward to my annual physical more; either would be less likely to leave me with post traumatic stress disorder.

Take the Huey P. Long at your own risk.
