Ok so I know the basics of ip addresses. I have a website, I can tell the ip address of everybody who goes to my website. I know how to find someones ip address in the headers of an email and I know how to trace that ip address to what town they are in and their service provider...I know ip address is internet protocol blah blah blah.

But what I dont know is this:

Is the ip address from the modem or the laptop?

For example, if someone goes to my website one day and signs up, I can see their ip address.....but if they take their laptop to starbucks and hook it up there, wouldnt the ip change? or would it still be the same because they are using the same laptop?

  1. it's not really the modem itself. but it's not the laptop either. however, it's closer to the modem in a sense...

when someone takes their laptop from home and uses starbuck's wifi, their ip address wil be different than their home ip address. that's how you know that it isn't related to the computer itself.

ps u can easily change your ip address..

    here's how:

turn off your modem for about a couple of minutes and turn it back on and connect to the internet again.

there you go... it's been changed. easy huh?

    bye

  2. If they have dynamic ip address it changes all the time anyway...and most are dynamic.

Sometimes my ip says I am 50 miles from where I am.
