Sorry to ruin anyone's fun out there, but in all likelihood, the Jersey Devil is very much a myth. Whenever one is looking to understand whether or not something like this might exist, it is good to ask yourself questions that address the issue rationaly.

1) How does the animal breed? In order for there to be a Jersey Devil, there must have been two before it, or some combination of animals that mated and created this creature. According to accounts, there is no real consensus on exactly what the JD is, so figuring this out is probably impossible.

2) Why is it only found in New Jersey? I personally love the Garden State, and can understand why, as a creature of the night, one might want to live there. However, it is useful to note that most animals don't confine themselves to a single state or location. Breeding populations are just too small if they do.

3) Who are the people telling you it is real? look at their credentials and ask yourself if you would believe other things they tell you.

There are many more questions like this, but being skeptical is probably the best advice to anyone wondering whether or not the Jersey Devil, or any other creature of the night, truly exists.
