  1. The Kodak Z712 is what's called a "bridge camera." It's got a big fixed lens and looks like an SLR but has all the properties of an advanced point and shoot camera. The advantage of a bridge camera over a normal point and shoot is the more powerful zoom lens and the usual inclusion of manual control.

A DSLR on the other hand is able to use the many interchangeable lenses that correspond with the manufacturers system. The sensor of a DSLR is also larger, allowing the production of pictures that are less noisy and cleaner and the ability to actually use the higher ISOs. Another thing unique to DSLRs is the "what you see through the viewfinder is what you get" property.

DSLRs lack video recording. It's not so much that it lacks it, but rather that it isn't the right tool for it.

  2. The Z712 is not a DSLR Camera...I bought this camera thinking it was and was irate when it wasn't.

Its a good camera. I like it except that it isnt a dslr...

  3. no its is not a dslr...but do yourself and your wallet a favor and DONT buy a kodak....there are MUCH better cameras out there for around the same price. dont settle on the first thing u find. if u want something with a high zoom (but a good quality camera) then look at the panasonic tz-4 or tz-5. or even the panasonic fz-18. the nikon p80. or anything like that.....DONT BUY A KODAK....

  4. Kodak does not make DSLRs, but I have a Kodak Z812 IS and love it, I suggest this one for you.
