  1. i never heard of a spanish name like that

  2. It is a north western  Spanish name, still quite common in Vizcaya /biscay, Cantabria and Navarra . Later diffused to Mexico and other countries in Latin America. The name is Spanish but with a big difference (a  good clue is in the regions were it is most diffused in Spain today): the etymology is not from a Spanish word but from a Basque word, goytia,  which means upper side, the top.

The origin of any basque surname is the name of a house or farmhouse: families used the name of the house as a surname and probably the origin of Goytia is linked to the owners of the upper/top house . A nother etymology wants goytia used as a definition by the basques of those coming from the mountains (upper part) thus cantabrians

There are old clusters of Goytia (before 1600) in Aramaiona (Alava), Busturia, and Arrazua Amorebieta (Vizcaya/ Biscay), and the origins are in  any case Vizcaya province and Basque - Cantabrian
