Question:

Is the laughter of atheists merely loneliness pathetically trying to reassure itself?

A Christian (assumed) just made this statement as an answer to a totally unrelated question.

But it begs the question whether the only true laughter comes from fundamentalist christians and laughter from anyone else is forced and awkward.

  1. Methinks Lightandtruth is projecting.

  2. I am amazed that the fundamentalist can hear laughter through the computer! Or maybe this person needs to see a psychologist.

Laughter is laughter and that is a fundamental truth.

  3. Considering the fundies are laughing at the idea of people roasting in h**l for not following their god, that's NOT the kind of laughter that should spread.  Let 'em laugh.  I manage to have a good time without the idea of hurting people.

  4. Rest assured we're laughing at them....

    ...not with them.

  5. I didn't know that being Christian gave you mind-reading powers.

  6. Only a true Christian can laugh. Although atheists can chuckle, smirk, snortle, giggle, and hoot, only true Christians can laugh for they have eternal joy in their hearts.

  7. Once again Fundies, or any religionist?, show how out of touch with reality they truly are when they nag us about ANY, of their rhetoric.

I just don't care WHAT they think. about ANYTHING!!!!

  8. YES!  EVERYONE who's not a bonified, born-again, resurrected, washed in the blood, dunked under the water, evangelical, premellinialist, Calvinistic, 3rd reorganized Church of the We-got-It-Together-Brethren certainly cannot laugh in any way that is not pathetic!  AND Lonely!

  9. I don't think so.

Hey, I laugh at jokes about poo...does that make me a bad person?

  10. we must miss out. not having invisible friends and all

  11. Just keep copying and pasting your one quote dude, eventually someone will pay attention to you.

  12. Christians are smug which is ironic as they have yet to prove their smugness is actually warranted. There is no god.

  13. Quite the opposite in fact!!

Science has shown atheists have a higher intelligence than people with a strong religious faith. The difference is 5.8 points according to findings in developmental psychology!!!

More members of the "intellectual elite" considered themselves atheists than the national average.

Only 7 percent of members of the American National Academy of Sciences believed in God. Whilst only 3.3 percent believed in God in the UK’s Royal Society.

Several Gallup poll studies of the general population have shown that those with higher IQ’s tend not to believe in God."

Evolution in action with Christians getting left behind like the monkeys and apes before them!!!

  14. Interesting question.  Laughter is a funny response to me.  I find something funny and I laugh.  If an atheist laughs at what a "christian" says I truly believe they find what they are saying funny based on what their own belief's happen to be.  True laughter for me is not something I would feel compelled to do if I truly believed in what I was saying to be the ultimate truth.   If someone didn't see the subject at hand my way and I felt they were truly missing out on something that could free them from the bondage they seemed to me to be entrapped in, then I would feel sorrow not laughter.  That is why I don't take offense when people laugh at me for anything unless it is truly funny.  Anything else would be cruelty as far as what I would feel towards someone else.  If I truly believed there was no God and I saw all the people here confining themselves to religious doctrine, I would feel sorrow for them as fellow human beings that didn't know they could be free.  I feel that anyway towards people who have not experienced what I have but i look at it this way...what God has for me is for me.  Everyone else has theirs.

  15. I just want to see how theists can reconcile calling us both arrogant and a YA majority, and also lonely and insecure.

How can you be arrogant and insecure at the same time?

How can you be lonely and an overweening majority at the same time?

Come on believers - at least get together and decide on noncontradictory ad hominems.

Although come to think of it asking people who believe in the Bible or Quran to not be contradictory is a bit ironic, and overly optimistic.  My bad.

  16. I'm totally alone, yet I laugh like h**l, laughing at You People's gullibility & ignorance!

    YAY ME!!!

    MEOW?

  17. True laughter comes from God.  The Bible says He laughs at the unbelievers knowing their time is coming.

  18. When people say that atheists are lonely, and scared of god etc, i see this as a reflection of their own feelings.

  19. In response, I snorted out loud.  What does THAT mean?

  20. If believing that fulfills your need, then , "Yes, of course it is".

  21. Ooh ooh, a link? It'd make my day.

Anyway, I don't like to laugh too much because eventually I'd start wheezing (I have asthma). *shrugs*

  22. lmao.

    ignorance makes me laugh. =]

    i disagree
