  1. YEP Footscray market is safe to walk around no problems, personally though i think it is a $h!t hole and avoid it,id rather go to vic or even better sth melbourne market which is a fav.Footscray is a real metling pot and you feel like your in another country-interesing.

  2. Not sure what you mean by safe, but I use to live there too. The restaurants are varied and I have eaten in many of them. I actually like the Footscray market for its basic presentations, nothing packaged (or it was not the last time I was there ). I do not live there currently but if I had to return to Melbourne, I would choose Footscray and mostly because of the market

  3. yeah its safe unless you p**s someone off a lot. also a great place to buy fireworks they've been busted like 3 times by the police and keep selling them

  4. It's as safe as any public place.

But I agree with Forky, it is a bit of a dump. It's a good place to go if you're looking for fresh food but not much else. And most of the restaurants around Footscray sell some decent Asian food.

Note of caution though. When finding a car park or even getting out of one, be careful because a lot of the drivers down there are bloody crazy.

  5. Yes, of course they are. If you're concerned about your bag being snatched, wear a backpack. If you're concerned about your money, mobile phone, keys ect,  being stolen, then wear jeans and keep them in your front pockets. If you're concerned about being hassled, go shopping with friends (safety in numbers). You really shouldn't worry though,  marketplaces are really enjoyable, and who knows, you might pick up a bargain or two.  :)
