Is the loss of a stinger fatal to all bees or just bees that have barbed stingers which purposefully detach?

  1. Only honey bees lose their stingers and thus die following a sting.


  2. No. Even bees with barbed stingers are only injured fatally if their stinger is torn out (with venom sacs and other parts attached) which usually only happens when they sting a larger animal.

    Bees kill other insects to protect their hives without losing their stingers and dying.

    Some bees (and of course wasps) can sting multiple times.
