Question:

Is the mAh value critical for NiMH batteries?

I have a cordless logtech mouse (model mx 700) that uses nickel metal hydride batteries as its power source. It charges itself on a base when the batteries are dead. My set of rechargeable batteries are shot, and the instructions say that you must replace them with identical batteries of 1500-1900 mAh. Do you think it's critical to use that range? Would 2000 mAh damage the unit?

  1. No.  Go ahead and buy them.  100 mAh difference in capacity won't make much difference.  Your mouse charger can handle this easily.

Don't go too high though (like 2500 mAh or higher) because the charger circuits of your mouse might be overloaded.

  2. ITS SAFE TO USE THAT SIZE,THEY WILL LAST A BIT LONGER.ITS THE SAME VOLTS BUT HIGHER mAh.ALSO A BIT LONGER TO CHARGE.

  3. No. The mAH is the capacity of the battery to handle charge. The higher the mAH is, the more charges it can handle, in short the battery can last longer per charge if it has higher mAH.

On the other hand, to recharge a battery with higher mAH, it would also take longer time. To charge it faster, a higher charging current is needed. A charger that can give a charging current of 500mA will take 4 hours to charge a 2000mAH battery.
