Question:

Is the mail man discriminating me, because of my name?

When I lived in California, I always got mail, regardless whether my name was on the mail box or not. And I moved around a lot in California.

When I moved down to Florida for college. I noticed I wasn't getting mail, I told the mail man, and they told me, if my name is not on the mail box, I won't get mail, so I put it on there, and started getting mail. But than I noticed that I kept getting mail for people who did not live at my address, and whose name was not on the mail box. Which made me angry.

I eventually moved to a different apartment, and they wouldn't give me mail, unless my name was on the box, yet I continued to get mail, for people who did not live at the address, and who's name is not on the box. Every time I move down here this happens. I am starting to think the mail man looks at my spanish last name, and discriminates against me.

What are your thoughts?

  1. i noticed you said you live in an apartment.  usually, apartment contracts are not that long.  1-2 years.  there have probably been quite a few former tenants there.  some may not have left a forwarding address.  i have lived in my house for almost 3 years and still get mail addressed to former owners.  i don't think it's discrimination.   it's really a pretty common problem.  hope that helped.

  2. The post office is ineffective & ineficient. They also hire people that don't care. I often get other people's mail as well & at times I don't get my own, because they deliver it to someone else that throws it out &  don't have a spanish name.

  3. Yes the whole world is out to get you. It is a rule they have in Florida apperently just follow the rules. Gas is 5 dollars a gallon there is rampant foreclosures and unemployment for the love of god just throw the other mail away and go about your day would ya please.

  4. You should file a report with the USPS. You can go online, but I would go in person to the local post office.  I married a Spanish guy and was on temporary disability a couple of  years ago and had a hard time getting coverage and I know it was because of my last name at the time.  I kept faxing and mailing the stuff they needed and they kept telling me they didn't receive it.  Good Luck!

  5. No you're being paranoid. Follow the rules.

How do you discriminate someone wouldn't it be discriminating against you?
