Is the main cause of conflict in our country caused by the reduction of states' rights?

Couldn't many of the issues that are causing problems in our country se solved if they were settled at a stated level rather than trying to have one law for all states?

Is it possible for one law on a federal level to be applicable and fair to everyone in the country?

  1. Twenty Five years ago, I would have agreed with your comment.  Today, even the state legislators are becoming full time 'lawmakers."  We see seat belts become an offense that carries a criminal penalty.   States are regularly operating "sobriety checkpoints."  I do not use drugs or booze. Yet, I have been checked 6 times this year, 2008.  Of course, it is a safe part of town in which the officers have lowered the odds of having a dangerous and desperate drug dealer in the road stop.  The government is now under a legal blanket to invade your car.  That should frighten people who recognize the government as a natural enemy to an independent individual.   Yes, I do agree with your remarks that federal level legislation is not appropriate or fair due to the special circumstances between and among the states.

  2. the problem with this country is that a corporate friendly government allows the corporations the same rights and liberty's as citizens when the constitution stipulates that only people have rights.

we also have the problem of the citizens thinking that they have absolute freedom when their freedoms only extend to a certain point. the second amendment is no longer relevant and should be removed from the constitution. this was for the time when Americans had to defend themselves from dangerous animals and there was no organized police or military force that could be quickly sent to them. the press thinks they have the right to do anything they want and they actually stalk people and that's not how the freedom of the press works or was meant to work.

  3. combined with an ever expanding federal govt.
