My freezer is full of pork, beef, and venison. When the door was discovered open, it was shut immediately and everything was refrozen.

  1. With kids this has happened to me before - but never for longer than overnight.

I have cut and pasted the answer below from 6 months ago. I tend to go along with this writer. But do mark these items and cook them well done (and I wouldn't let grandma or the littles ones eat these products just to be extra safe)

Or - call the neighbors and have a BBQ!

I've bought meat and poultry before at the store that was "previously frozen" and at purchase, pretty much thawed; and they told me it would be fine to take it home and re``freeze it for use within a couple months.

One last suggestion is to mark or separate everything you decide to keep. That way, you can be extra careful to thaw/cook things properly, and also double check by smell when you do thaw (or use) them. And, as you probably do anyway, try to rotate so the oldest things get used first.

  2. Was it completely unthawed and warm?  As long as it was still cold, it's still good.

  3. Anything that still had some ice crystals in it should be safe.  Any meat that was thawed enough to loose all the ice crystals and be warmer than about 40 would be very risky.

  4. I would think so.  It would probably only go bad if it was left out for a couple of days.  But it does depend on the size of the meat.
