Is the metal pole under the rear speakers in the trunk important or can they be cut?

Hey everyone, I just recently built a new box for my 15" Kicker L7 and everything went perfect until i couldnt push the sub box all the way to the back of my trunk. The idea was to save room and still have it sound awesome. But i noticed that there is a bar under each of my rear speakers that is preventing the box from being pushed back all of the way. If that bar isnt there the problem is solved. But my question is if i do cut that bar off, will i run into another problem? or is that bar just there to protect the bottoms of the speakers. I notice that when i close the trunk all the way the pole recesses into the top of the trunk. but other than that i dont think it serves any purpose. Can anyone tell me if i cut this pole, will it be ok or will my trunk be totally screwed up. Thanks

  1. I had a mitsubishi and it had a similar set up, I was not able to bend the rods on that car.  When they were taken out the trunk lid was dead weight, it was not that big of a problem because the lid was not heavy but you had to turn the key and pull up at the same time.  Broom stick held the lid ok.  Nice box by the way.  Looks pretty good, I might have gone with two twelves since they would have hit harder and air space would have been less.  More effective surface area in 2 12's but the box looks good.  What are the dimensions of the box?? is it taller than it is deep, you could maybe rotate the box, although that won't save you any space, or maybe you could cut down the back of the box a little if you have the air volume to work with.  Looks like you need less than an inch.  Good luck.  You know looking at that picture again it lloks diferent than my mitsubishi because the bars on that one ran across the trunk, I would take out the box, I don't know if you seat comes down but if it does not I would have a friend help me and get inside the trunk and see where exactly the bar goes and what happens as the trunk opens and closes, you will need a flashlight.  It may be easily removable without having to cut, if something is under tension it can be dangerous cutting into it, you need to find what position it is under less tension.  Most likely opened.

  2. Those are tension rods that hold the deck lid open. If you cut them, the trunk might not open and if it does, watch your head!
