Is the middle an important posistion in volleyball?

i think it's very important. playing with my current team (6 man beach vb), i have noticed 60% or more of the serves land in or near the middle. i personally love the middle position!

well sort of but that depends how good of a setter you have and if you have a good outside hitter but the most important position is the 6 spot which is behind middle usually a captain and has to have a loud mouth and great leadership so overall middle is 30 - 35 percent important and because its in the front line and depending on how tall you are

I would say yes, it IS an important position.

I was playing middle hitter/blocker in college... but I never thought I was *more* important than others.

Physically I never got the muscle to hit the ball in order to watch it bounce to the ceiling, which was the expertise of our outside hitters, but I thought I was smart enough to outplay double blocks offered by my opponents in the middle, which in turn gave my outside hitters lots of open looks.

My setters had confidence in me so that they would frequently look for me in the air. When there is less than one blocker ready for me, my setter would prefer to hit me in the middle (thus they could save some calories by not setting the ball soooo high :-).

Well if you play a team that mainly hits towards the middle....I geuss its fine. In volleyball, everyone gets a chance. Yes, some are more important than the others. But don't worry about it! I recomend just to have fun!

Heck yeah! It is the main blocking  and hitting source. The middle hitter is usually always the strongest and tallest hitter on the team. It is the easiest set for the setter to set to; forward or backset. Middle hitters also get to set if the setter happens to touch the first ball.
