I have seen MANY people not pay attention when changing lanes or cutting across a parking lot while using cell phones.

I do not want to sound sexist but is not girls and women the ones who just have to keep talking on the phone constantly?

  1. That's funny becuase most of the people that I"ve seen on the phone are MEN!! I"ve also seen them shaving and reading while driving!!! I'm not saying that women don't drive distracted I'm saying that men do also!!! Why are insurance rates higher for men than women even after they out grow their teen years??? Because men cause more accidents than women. They take more risks and drive more distracted than women.

  2. wow i like these answers especialy Kathryn R's

in fact Kathryn R if you look at statistics it is the females that have more accidents after the age of 25

  3. cell phones and driving do not mix-anything that engages your 'mental attention' will cause you to pay less attention to the task at hand, and will impair your driving ability-even 'hands free' phones.  multi-tasking is for the office, not the highway

  4. Anybody with a cell phone, not just women or teens.  The driver I (finally) passed yesterday was doing 45 on the freeway (65mph speed limit) in the middle lane, oblivious to the people passing him on both sides and the back-up he was causing.

Note I said "he" and not "she" in the above paragraph.  The twit was male, mid thirties, cell phone held to his ear with one (the left) hand, steering (after a fashion) and writing notes on a pc of paper sitting on the steering wheel with his other (right) hand.

Commuting in the San Francisco Bay Area for the last 19 years I see all kinds of people doing all kindes of stupid s**t when they should be DRIVING!!!!

Sorry, that was the long answer.  The short answer is: no.

  5. I wouldn't pick on the cell phone use as much as I would the people who do not know how to drive in general.  I drive about 85,000 miles a year and I can tell you that the biggest problem are the people who just don't pay attention at all.  I can't begin to count the number of times I've been on the interstate and have set my cruise control at 70mph just to cancel it because the car that just passed me cut me off and is now in front of me driving 60 mph.  Then when I signal and move to the left lane, I push the resume button and my car accelerates back up to 70.  I pass the car that cut me off and slowed down so I move to the right lane again.  Not even 30 seconds later they're passing me again!  They may move to the right lane and slow down again, or they'll ride in the left lane not too far in front of me, or they may just accelerate and go on.  I noticed the number of times this has happened to me that these people aren't on cell phones, generally there are more than 2 people in the car when this type of incident happens...both old and young.  My favorite drivers are the ones I can see coming upon me from my rear view mirror and then when they get beside of me they slow up and then run the speed limit or fall behind me...it happens all the time, I don't drive anything that would even come close to a police car, it's just that they aren't paying any attention.

I was coming home one evening, I was about 4 seconds back from the tractor trailer in front of me.  This car came down the entrance ramp, it was a short ramp so any normal person would know to push the accelerator to the floor and hold it until reaching highway speed of 65 mph.  The woman came down the ramp and merged right into the trailers wheels.  After we all pulled over she admitted that she didn't know what to do!  How many people on the road get into situations and don't know what to do!?!?

As for cutting across a parking lot, the biggest thing I see are the people who have the right of way end up stopping for those who don't...because they aren't paying attention and don't know what to do.  I haven't seen cell phone use involved in those incidents either.

In general, I don't blame cell phone use.  I blame idiots on the road who need a little more practice driving and a whole lot less talking or playing with the radio.  I talk on the cell phone all day, it's part of my job.  I've told my bosses that if they wanted me to pull over everytime I recieved a call (whether it be from a customer or a vendor) I wouldn't get out of my driveway in the morning.  I recently got my Commercial Driver License, I wanted to see if I could get it.  I was inpressed at the knowledge needed to pass the written and driving tests.  I wish everyone with a driver's license (now and in the future) had to go through what people go through to get a CDL.  I truely believe the roads would be a better and safer place to drive.  Cell phones may "contribute" to some accidents to a certain extent, but if you asked someone how many feet would it take you to stop at 55 mph on a snowy road I think you'd find out where most of the problem lies.  I really don't want you to think I'm denouncing the cell phone theory, I just believe it lies deeper than "Hang up and Drive"!

  6. No, the scariest thing on the road is a sales rep. on his cell phone and using his lap top while he is driving.

  7. Anyone on the road talking on a phone and also drunk.

  8. Well I'm getting V.G. at "knowing" those cell phone users, b/c they are the ones driving very s-l-o-w-l-y usually in the left or middle lanes (get the F*#^k over to the right!) OR wavering over the lane lines (HONK! HONK! HONK!--you idiot!) OR braking/not signalling/signalling at the wrong place.  GRRRRR!

All the more aggravating b/c there's NEVER a cop around to pull them over!

BTW in my experience, it's BOTH sexes!

  9. Why do you consider only females dangerous while on cell phones?  Isn't it people on cell phones while driving that annoys you?

I used a cell phone once while driving.  I called the truck that was driving down the road.  He had his number on one of those magnetic signs.  His passenger (male) threw a milk carton with milk still in it out the window and hit my car in the windshield.  He was male.  You don't see me coming on yahoo answers asking why men throw milk cartons out their windows while driving down the road.

Obviously that isn't the most dangerous situation since the statistics shown in my source shows that the higher the male population in an area, the higher the fatalities in a car crash.  The more women in the population...the less fatalities.

I have noticed personally that men will drive faster, take more risks on the road, and errupt in road rage more than women.  Maybe this is not true, but like you it is what I have experienced personally.

  10. Anyone using a cell phone while driving is a safety hazard! I've seen so many people, male and female, who are too busy on their phone that they're either going really slow, driving way too fast, or just driving reckless in general.

My advice, if you NEED the phone that much, buy one of those new systems that come standard in the new Fords (I don't remember the name, but I know thats the company that puts them in their cars now). All you have to do is say the name of the person, and your car does the rest. No hands required!

  11. no most dangerous is a guy checking out hot females on the phone in their cars.

  12. I hate seeing people on cell phones. Both males and females using them make me nervous. It's not as bad as texting though.
