It's definitely good. Terrence Howard earned a justly-deserved Best Actor Oscar nomination for his lead role as a Memphis pimp who yearns to give up his old ways and become a hip-hop star. He writes some songs and puts together a demo tape that he plans to give to an acquaintance, a local guy who became a rap star (played by Ludacris), during the star's upcoming visit to Memphis. There's a lot of drama, not just over the question of whether music can rescue Howard's character from his violent way of life, but also just in the process of building songs from the ground up. (Three 6 Mafia won a well-deserved Oscar for the song Howard spends the most time on, "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp.") Even if you're not a fan of hip-hop (or, specifically, Southern/Crunk-style rap), it's a very strong movie and worth seeing. Be aware, though, that there's some bloody violence, sexual situations, and lots of profanity.
