It absolutely a true story. I met the real character Lefty down in Boca Raton where he retired. He played Ace Rothstein. Nicky Santoro( Joe Pesci) 's character was real and killed in the same way. It was not only done in the movie but a show on the history channel. All the events took place from Ace's ca blowing up to Nicky getting beaten to death in a corn field.
