Is the movie star dust based on a book...?

does anyone know if there is a stardust book not one that was written for the movie but one that the movie was based on?

Neil Gaiman wrote the book 5+ years (I think) before the movie was made. I read the book after seeing the movie. While there are differences, I enjoyed both very much.
