  1. I suspect the spelling could go either way.

    "Right" spelling is something we are raised with, and normal with today's documentation.  It has not always been a concern, such as in the 1800s when people did not have computers, and were not literate.

    In genealogical terms.. spelling does not matter. The goal is to find relationships, even if two brothers use a different spelling. In some ways, search engines and computers are a bonus to research. If you rely ONLY ON that, you may fail to see a valid record, if the computer does not 'hit' it.
