I will be traveling to Netherlands later this year. And I will spend a portion of it by myself in Amsterdam and Utrecht and meeting up with people sporadically. Is the Netherlands a cool place to be by yourself. I can't imagine it being anymore dangerous than the US. But will it be easy to just kind of hang out and how are people about hanging out with tourist?

  1. The Netherlands is MUCH safer than anywhere in the US. I've traveled alone to Amsterdam many times and have not had any problems. The only thing you need to worry about it pickpockets and bike thieves.

There are people from all over the world here and most are very friendly.

I do not think people on the trains are very friendly, they tend to keep to themselves. But overall you will probably meet all kinds of people out and about. It's a great country, you will do fine. Have fun!

  2. The city's are kinda save. Not more dangerous that the US. I've never had trouble myself at least. And as for traveling on your own, of course it's more fun with others.

And people have no problem with talking to tourists. I'd show anyone around if I happen to have the time then. It just depends on how you are and act, you know?

  3. The most criminal cities in the Netherlands, are Amsterdam and Utrecht, and it isn't anything comparable to big US Cities,

If you'll be behaving quite normally, and not like some of US citizens who appear to be eager to show themselves that they're from the US and should let it know to everybody, you'll do just fine.

Small no-go areas are Amsterdam Southeast and Utrecht Kanaleneiland, but you'll figure out soon enough that there isn't anything there to enjoy. :)

Imho there's nothing "cool" about it.... just another country where people work and live, but that's more up to you. :)

    Regards from Rotterdam.

  4. why you don't think to east?

I think far east is cool specially China and India. Iran is better than others because -I am Iranian ;) but- it's really hospital country and has fantastic attraction: cultural, eco, sport, political ;) and so on...

If you decide to visit Iran and think it is expensive you can find a Travel agency with low cost. some of them are really cheap.

I suggest you to think east, specially IRAN.

    ;)

  5. Netherlands is a safe country. i went on holiday a couple of years ago really enjoy it. the people are friendly.

Amsterdam and Utrecht are two different and nice places. there's a lot to visit.

    enjoy your stay

  6. I do not think you will run into trouble.

Especially in city centers there are all kinds of people that welcome new faces (of course, you have idiots everywhere, so you are bound to run into a few of those as well)

Hanging out with a tourist - all depends on the tourist, to be honest.

If you are alone, best way to travel is by public transport, such as the train. Easy to use, easy to get from A to B.

On the train you might meet niece people, although people are somewhat to themselves while traveling on the train.
