Is the ninja 650r a good beginner bike for a 16 year old 5'4 -138lbs who lives in New Jersey?

i heard alot of good things about the ninja 250cc, i liked the way it looked and i lived in florida my whole life, always wanted the 250cc, now im finally 16 parents say we are moving to new jersey, and its to hilly for a 250cc, i dont like the look of a 500cc (ninja) anyone have good suggestions? is the ninja 650r just too much power? i lift weights so not like im weak for my size. Also, i was wondering about a crash cage so if i drop it , wont get ruined. thanks

  1. I would really recommend a Ninja 250R, it is much more beginner friendly than a 650. You will have no problem going up hills. Your height is better fitting for the 250R , and you will be very happy with it. For a more in-depth view go here:

  2. A crash cage is called a Buick. No it isn't to hilly in New Jersey. Perhaps in northern Nepal the hills are formidable but not NJ. Yes the 650 Ninja is to large for you. Go with the 250 and be prepared to trade up in a year. If you could choke down a cruiser I would recommend a 600Honda V twin as a mid size, get your feet wet bike. Ride that for a year and you will be ready to move up.

Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day.

  3. I am your height.  You are too short for 650r.  I'm not making fun or anything.

Also the Ninja 650 is way too HOT for beginner.

    >> hilly for a 250cc,

What?  I live in NYC / NJ area.  Most NJ is flat like a pan-cake and there are few "hills" but nothing a 250 can't easily take, especially the Ninja 250 that can do 110 MPH.

    Good luck...

  4. The 650R is just a twin, right? That is not too much for a beginner and I think the seat height on the 650R is only an inch or so higher than the 250R. Check the specs on Kawi's website to be sure.

  5. hey bro. i didn't read anything at anyone else wrote but if it helps i know a little about low seat heights. i started with a honda nighthawk 250. it was a great bike to learn on, but here in florida, its kinda impractical on the streets. i quickly sold it because i was really unhappy with the lack of power and when your that exposed on a bike you should at least be able to get out of the way if you need to. i have a harley physical and i also have a yamaha r-6 both are great bikes and much better power wise. the 650r has a nice low seat height, the lowest on the market, and is not tuned like a regular 600. it is much more forgiving and even tho it has more CC's it isn't more power full. its a got, smart bike for someone with your experience. i would highly recommend the motorcycle safety school for obvious reasons, but also you wont have to do the driving test at the DMV on your own bike. check out MTII(motorcycle training institute inc) its great and not too expensive. its saved me several times. good luck bro. i think that's going to be the best bike for you, and is a smart choice. ride safe

  6. Go with the Ninja 250. It will have no problem in tackling the hills of New Jersey.
