  1. Five is lucky, it's four that is unlucky.

  2. No 4 and 9 are unlucky numbers. 5 does not really have any special meaning to the majority of people. Some people like it others don't.

4 is sometimes called s**+ (Also Yon sometimes)

9 is also considered unlucky too. It is Ku

    s**+ is also Death.

Ku is associated with pain or torture. Kurushimu = surffering

So people don't like these numbers so much because of those associations.

  3. 5, the number itself,  is neither good nor bud luck symbol in Japan. The ominous number is either 4 or 9 but not so much strict ill feeling such as 13 in Christian.

Many hotels, for instance,  have the rooms numbered 04 and/or 09 on the floor of 4th or 9th actually in Japan.

Four leaves clover is still very lucky in Japan.

7 is well-known as lucky number after baseball 's old sayings in USA and 8 is also pretty favorable number because of Kanji character's shape 八(it is as if indicates prosperous future from top to bottom).

These are all kind of old people's superstition without any rationalism  there.

  4. No, 4 and 9 are the bad luck numbers: http://discover-jp.blogspot.com/2006/11/...
