China has about 20% of the worlds population, therefore if the win in excess of 20% of the medals they are above average. Usually Australia are the top preforming nation per capita

Well, the truth of the matter is... the Olympic Games, like any human enterprise, has a lot of hush-hush (and not-so-hush-hush) politicking going on with it.

So is it going to be proof of Chinese physical superiority? Maybe. Or then again, maybe not. Go figure.

the chinese have always been known to dominate in intricate routines: such as gymnastics, synchronized diving, etc.

but the beijing olympics is supposed to be like the dawning of a new age in China

because before China was so behind technologically and financially

but now

it's making such an incredible comeback, to the point where it is yet again one of the main national powers of the world

the beijing olympics are meant to show this (and to promote tourism, but that's more of a side dish :)

The Olympics provides no proof of physical superiority. Winners have access to excellent training and funding. They are devoted and competitive and they desire athletic success. They have government and country support.

If you took 100 people from each country and provided each person with the same benefits, for all we know, the athletes from an African country could be physically superior.

One thing I've learned in life is that those who strive to prove themselves superior to others will lose out because no one will like them. Their need to be superior to others is a fault.

Winning Olympic doesn't mean physical superiority.  Canada so far sucks at it and India has been traditionally suck at it.  That doesn't mean they are inferior.

No, it means they train harder and have a much larger pool of talent to mould athletes from than Croatia for example. More hunger to use sport to get a better life and a nice bonus for any medals.

The real figures are medals per capita..Australia & the US would wipe the floor with the rest of us if this was put into effect.
