  1. Part number and model number are not always the same.  The vehicle parts dealer has their catalog part number, the brand of the alternator (Delco, Fomoco, Mopar, etc) have their individualized numbers as well as the automotive parts store for their own line ( Napa, O'Rilleys, Sears, Pep Boys, Advance Auto, etc ).  Sometimes a casting number will be in the housing which can be of help.  Take the alternator to a parts store and ask for assistance.

  2. Any auto-parts store worth their salt (NAPA & Carquest in paticular) should be able to use the part # and advise you what vehicle it's designed for.

  3. You answered my question. But I need to respond to you.

Say if I were to just make up some crazy story, so then they would have to not of known anything, would that work?

Also, Im sure that part numbers and model numbers are different.
