Is the phrase "the more you hate, the more you love" actually true?

I always hear that phrase

No, that is just a way to excuse ones bad behaviour.

I've never heard that one. It's either too "deep" for me to understand or it makes no sense at all.

I disagree. I have guys I really dislike to the point of hate and NO I do not have any loving feelings towards them.

I think what that means is that - the degree of intensity of hate & love are equal.
