  1. Not if you are wearing a full face helmet with a dark tinted shield.  :-)

Seriously,  it is all about how you feel about yourself.  Do you have the self esteem to travel around on a highly functional, fuel efficient, easy to park, convenient  practical, etc. etc. or should you buy an 800 pound chrome plated loud piped fat tired over priced Harley Davidson  for that 3 block  ride to Tims and sneering at babies and old ladies at crosswalks.

Scooters are great, if you like em, get one, they are a blast.  The only caveat is if you intend to use it on high speed highways make sure you get at least a 400, bigger is better for long distance work.   If it is strictly city just about any size is OK, but you will get bored with anything under 125 cc pretty quick.

  2. NO! Men have always ridden Italian scooters besides men have earrings and get pedicures these days.

  3. I too am considering getting a scoot.  I rode one of the BV250's and I am a big guy.  Plenty of pep and the 16 inch wheels  made for a nice ride.  The dealer said they do about 80 MPH and get about 60 mpg.  This is from the 50 yo salesguy at the BMW bike dealership.  They rode the MP3 and looks like they a re a ton of fun.  I don't want to ride the MP3 as I know I will get the wants bad and the budget doesn't allow for it.  I rode a Vespa but they are too much money for the size.  I know they have the "style" but I am not paying that much more for the unibody and cache of the Vespa name.

Man up!  buy the fun scooter and have fun.  It will blow the door off most things rolling out there today... and its an automatic.

  4. I wanted to buy one for my wife... but she said no.  Why? Because she knew I would be riding it all the time and she wouldn't get a chance to.  Go for it, dude.  But, I agree, spend the extra scratch and get the 500.

  5. If you want a neat 3 wheeler, then look up the Carver vehicle. It's like being in the cockpit of a jet fighter.

  6. What? Too sissy?   Fugeddaboutit.

Gregory Peck rode a Piaggo scooter in Roman Holiday.

(Vespa is from Piaggio, as is Aprilia.)

All the people all worried what people will think.  I think if you ride one, people will have great respect for your common sense. As opposed to the Hummer driver, of course.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!

  7. For like an extra few hundred bucks you can get the MP3 500 which looks pretty mean i think:

My boss has the MP3 250 and it is sweet... people on crotch rockets stop him in the street and ask him about it... so no... not a sissy bike at all.

  8. good answers!  If you need your ride to make you feel like a manly man, then any scooter will probably not do.  On the other hand, to me the Vespa's are downright s**y...plus they are chick magnets.  Your call.
