Definitely the best basic instrument. Look at John Lennon. He composed a lot onthe piano as a guitar player.

incredibly. i think that it is because when i write for my band, we use guitar, drums and bass. no piano or nothing but anyway, when i write and arrange parts on it, i use a piano due to it's simplicity (when it comes to arranging anyway)

As a guitar player, I love to compose and play the piano for the simple reason that you can accompany yourself. You get a better idea how the somg is going to sound.

On the guitar, I can still play  finger style but is is never as complete as piano.

Having played the piano for about fifteen years, I found that it is one of the most versatile instruments and has the greatest range. I would recommend it for arrangements, as most will probably agree.
