Is the playstation 3 a quality upconverting dvd player for standard dvds?

I want a PS3 for the bluray player but I am wondering if I should use it for upconverting or use my current system. I have a sony DAV HDX500 home theater that upcoverts to 1080i.

ps3 would be worth it. just get a 20 gig if your not into gaming, theres plenty of other features too that you might use. so like i said, get the 20 gig, then upgrade the hard drive ( takes any 2.5" internal) if you want to keep all your movies downloaded onto it. when you buy a ps3 you also get a couple of blu rays free, at least i did when i bought mine,

The PS3 is a great upconverting player, one of the best available.  It upconverts to 1080p so it is almost definitely going to outperform what you are currently using.
