Is the power consumption the same if I turn the Air Con to 27 degrees Celcius rather than 16 deg.?

Just curious. I set it always to 27 since the temp is ok that way. But if the power consumption is the same, might as well set it to 16, right? What do you think, guys?

  1. Yes, the required energy will be limit

  2. The air conditioner will use the amount of energy it's design calls for, as long as it runs.  If it's rating is 3000 watts, it will use 3000 watts when it runs, and nothing when it's off.  What determines the total energy consumption (and the cost) is the amount of time it runs.  Setting the thermostat @ 27 means it will shut off when it cools down to 27, and not come back on until the temperature rises above that temperature.  Setting it to 16 means it will continue to run much longer, until the temperature drops to 16, and will have shorter "off" times as it tries to maintain that lower temperature.

  3. That would be right if you only had to pay for the power until the temp reached 27.    Question:  who would pay for the power while it runs to lower the temp to 16?

Plus if you are like me, you like it hot anyway. :)  dar
