Question:

Is the president wrong for criticizing Russia?

I think that the president should not have said anything about Russia's invasion of Georgia, because it looks like the pot calling the kettle black. Wasn't it he who ordered U.S. troops to go to Iraq and Afghanistan? How can he criticize another leader for doing the same thing that he did? What do you think?

  1. Bush should mind his own business - He, of all people, has no right to criticize any other head of state for invading another country.

  2. S. Ossetia is considered part of Georgia by the whole world but Russia apparently doesn't like that.  So when Georgia decided to take action about the S. Ossetian separatists Russia invaded Georgian territory.  So basically people are upset that Russia invaded first, S. Ossetia which is part of Georgia, then they proceeded to push further into Georgia, Gori.  And Bush isn't the only one to defend Georgia.  Both Britain and France did too.

  3. You really need to do some reading before making such statements.  You are comparing two totally different situations.

  4. George Bush a hypocrite? What a surprise!!!

  5. Very true, my friend. Just yesterday, Bush spoke on TV criticizing Russia for invading a sovereign nation and for wanting to bring down the democratically elected leader of Georgia. It could have been better if Bush spoken those words while facing himself in front of the mirror. I am not saying that what Russia did was right. But look who is talking. This is a man who himself invaded two sovereign nations (Iraq, Afghanistan), refused to recognize some democratically elected leaders (Iran, Syria, Palestinian Hamas), whose intelligence agency even plotted to assasinate a democratically elected leader (Hugo Chavez of Venezuela).

The other day, Bush heavily criticized Russia for responding with dis-proportionate military force against Georgia. Then again, look who is talking. The force used by Russia is nothing compared to Bush's "Shock and Awe" bombardment of Iraq, and yet he never thought of his own actions as dis-proportionate. I also remember two years back when Bush had spoken to defend Israel's actions of carrying out large-scale bombings of Lebanon's cities (airports, bridges, high-ways, oil-storage depots, and even some hotels, not to mention the clearly marked UN peacekeepers outpost) in respone to Hezbollah's kidnapping of two Israeli soldiers. Yet it never crossed his mind to call such actions as dis-proportionate.

It's no wonder why nobody pays attention to whatever Bush says anymore, nor take his words seriously. Bush himself had brought down America's credibility around the world with his eight years of faulty foreign policy. He had become the subject of caricatures appearing in most newspapers around the globe.

I can't fail but notice that despite Bush's rhetorics against Russia, his main allies (Great Britain, Germany, France and many other NATO nations) remain so conspicuously silent. Not a single one of them spoke in condemnation of Russia's actions. It is obvious that this time, they are very cautious about being dragged by the US into yet another war.

  6. Let's see, Georgia is trying to take back it's land from some separatists; Iraq has a leader threatening the U.S. and Israel, commited genocide against 100,000+ Iraqis, and allegedly had WMD; and Afghanistan was being run by the Taliban who were harboring/helping terrorists like Bin Laden.

  7. Not wrong, just a hypocrite. It is always the right thing for a head of state to criticize such behavior. Too bad he didn't listen to the world when they did so to him...

However, Russia played it exactly right. A massive show of force to remind Georgia to stay on its side of the fence. The knowledge that the international community could then be allowed to 'talk it down'. Reminding all in the process that no one can challenge them in anything more then words at this point.

If the Bush crew had played the Afghan war this way (and stayed the h**l out of Iraq) the US would have also kept its respect by the world intact. Instead it must be rebuilt by the next admin.

  8. Iraq and Afghanistan attacked us and are homes to terrorists.  Georgia is just trying to take control of some lost independed land.  Russia had no right interfearing in gerogias business.

  9. I think you are wrong.

Georgia invaded South Ossetia a Russian ally. Russia went into South Ossetia to push Georgian troops out but continued into Georgia. Bush criticized Russia for going into Georgia.

In 1991 Iraq invaded Kuwait. US forces went into Kuwait and pushed out Iraqi forces. Saddam signed a cease fire and agreed to certain terms. Saddam failed to meet those terms. Clinton did nothing about it. On Oct 2002 Congress passed public law 107-234 giving Bush the Authority to invade Iraq to enforce those terms, among other things.

Al-Queda was responsible for 911 and was being protected by the Afganistan government. They failed to turn over the Al-queda leadership so we invaded.
