Is the prevalence of text messaging a detriment to the spelling abilities of a generation?

Many of my son's friends, nieces, nephews, etc. spend so much time texting that they do not seem able to spell even common words.

    Seriously though, yes it is a huge problem. I believe in face to face communication and try not to use the phone unless I have to. I rarely text, and still see the effects in my constant need for spell-check. I can't believe how bad some of the grammar and spelling is in a lot of the postings here.

  4. Unfortunately, that is true.  Not only can they not spell, but they lack socialization skills as well.

  5. it is true but luckily i was tought deeply how to speak english and spanish and even write them well so i am kind of lucky but when im typing or texting i abbreviate a lot.. and misspell stuff on purpose
