Is the price of this Quaker a bargain?

A shop that hand-feeds their bird sold out of their Quakers the day before I called to adopt one! There was one left and it was $180 at 4 months of ago, so it didn't get depressed. They only get about 12 in every year around April so they gave me info on a lady who breeds them. She takes great care of her Quakers and hand-feeds them. I am going to get one as a baby and since it is a special order they said that the bird could cost $250. Also, I am told that Quakers usually cost around $500 since they are amazing! Should I go for it!?

  1. Not a bad price at all. The pet store I work at sells greens for $300 and blues for $500.

My blue quaker set his original owners back $900 when they purchased him two years ago (totally ripped off)

It depends on where you are, though. How readily avaliable the babies are, and how popular they are as pets at the time.

  2. That price isn't too bad. They are $150.00 and up from breeders. You can look on birdbreeders.com to get an idea on mutations and pricing.

  3. No a standard colored quaker (green)   can usually be purchased for $150-200,  handfed from a breeder or a petstore.   At least in my area (NC).  I assume you are having the petstore order for you.  I would recommend looking for quaker breeders in your area and going straight through the breeder.  That will give you a chance to know exactly who you are dealing with and cut your cost significantly by cutting out the middle man.

  4. A quaker is a bargain at any price! They are amazing little birds, sweet, loving companions, packed with personality, intelligence and attitude to spare. Whatever the price, you won't regret it.
