Is the process of Medicalisation positive or negative?

I can see how Medicalisation is both a good and a bad thing. Normal every day experiences are now seen as 'deviant' diseases which need to be cured. Is anything good about Medicalisation? What aspects of modern life does Medicalisation influence the most?

Cheers!

  1. I'd have to agree with what brainwash had to say in part. The whole medical thing(hospitals, doc's,pharmaceuticals etc)is a giant cash cow,and the cow isnt going to die anytime soon, just people, running to the almighty doctor for an eyelash ache, get the point?

  2. Illness and sickness.  The doctors are under great pressure by the pharmaceutical companies (through gits, free holidays and salary top ups) to give us synthetic drugs which all have side affects, some disastrous.   They are too ready to put you on medication or refer you to a physiologist who definitely will put you on something.   Most of these prescription drugs are addictive and dangerous.  More people die of prescription drugs than recreational drugs but it never gets reported in the main stream Media.  The pharmaceutical company is the biggest money making industry in the world after oil.  These drugs are not foods they are chemicals and most people people do not realise whats in them.  Doctors don't know or don't tell the patients the true harmful side affects.  They just say oh you may suffer slight headaches and visit the toilet more frequently.  Not that it will affect your brain or lead to such things like osteoporosis, arthritis and cancer.    We get cancer from chemicals in our drugs, food, air and water.    They don't want a healthy society there is more money to be made if were all sick!
