  1. I would choose the pontoon if you have little kids or old people or non-swimmers in your group.  If not I would go on one of the other boats that goes out to different parts of the reef (usually 2 or 3 sites in a day).  They can chose the best spots depending on weather/visibility etc.  You get to see different things at different spots.  I have been up there 7-8 times and scuba dived as well as snorkelled.  You shouldn't get sea sick.  Take some ginger or sea-sickness tablets before you get on the boat if your are prone to it and sit up and look at the horizen as well.  Snorkelling is easy and you are more likely to get personal assistance on one of the smaller boats than on the Quicksilver.  Smaller boats waste less time loading/unloading/counting/feeding everyone etc.  People also tend to be friendlier when there is only 20 people than when there are hundreds.

  2. It is just wonderful.  I had never been snorkelling in my life, but it was so easy out on the reef.  The water is calm (no waves) and you just float around looking at the most unbelievable fish and coral etc.   The lunch is fantastic.  The trip out can be a bit bumpy but the Catamaran is quite large and travels very fast so most people do not suffer any discomfort.  You will have a ball

  3. It is an absolutely amazing experience, worth getting sea sick over, although i highly doubt it! The reef is beautiful, and the variety of fish species is breathtaking. The water is very calm, there are buoys to hold onto if your a bit tired, and you never swim too far away from the boat anyway so shouldn't be a problem.

Also, you could try going to Green Island (cheaper option). This is also great, you can stroll around the rainforest island or take a helicopter ride, but honestly, The Pontoon is well worth the extra bucks!

    Have a great time! :)
