  1. Of course. The so called 'sails' are just for show. Under the deck is an enormous turbo powered diesel engine of over 1000 horsepower. It consumes 1000 litres of fuel an hour, so the race fleet is followed by a number of tankers who refuel the racers at night when noone can see what is going on. At night the racers anchor up, and sleep, but this causes problems where the water is very deep (ie. more than 1 mile)  as the anchor chain is so heavy it can cause the boat to sink. The crew sleep in luxurious double beds and have wild s*x parties every night. For more info go to Yachting World.com.

  2. i believe these boats do indeed have auxiliary engines for getting in and out of port and for berthing purposes.  they also will require some type of generator to charge batteries, etc.  good luck!

  3. no.hence the suggestive name!
