I ask because after last nights demonstration at the Republican convention where this group threw pepper spray into the faces of people attending the convention, I heard some democrats say that these were not Democrats, they were anarchists. Strange, I always thought the anarchists were from the democratic party. So are they democratic or not?

  1. FOX isnt news...its spin and propaganda, for the party that owns it.

I feel like I am living in n**i germany, where 80% of the populace just repeats things they hear without questioning them or knowing anything...ugly things..untrue things...in support of terrible people doing terrible things.

  2. Obviously they are Democrats

  3. exactly..i'm sure they're paid by the democrats to say that they're not. If they were affiliated with republicans wouldn't they protest the dnc?

  4. Anarchists are anarchists, not Democrats.

The Democratic Party, like the Republican Party, regards the corporate-welfare state as a legitimate institution; the two parties offer slightly different programs but both parties want to protect the privileges of the ruling class. Anarchists don't; we want to abolish these privileges.

I keep a stock description of anarchism:

    ****

Anarchism, in a nutshell, supports free association, opposes the state, and opposes hierarchy. (At the very least, anarchists oppose involuntary hierarchy; anarchists often try to create egalitarian alternatives to the semi-voluntary hierarchies too).

There are several different traditions which respect these values, and usually recognize each other as forms of anarchism. These traditions borrow ideas from classical liberalism, from early socialism, from each other, and sometimes from other sources.

People depend on each other. People tend to create their own voluntary social order, including free association, reciprocity, mutual aid, and, if necessary, mutual defense. Once people create this order, a state, or any other criminal gang, is in trouble. So the state, to preserve itself, must preempt voluntary social order.

  5. Democrats, obviously.  The party of peace goes to war to prove they are peaceful.  How ironic.

  6. No, anarchist are not for any government let alone party.

They aren't anarchists if they would belong to a political organization.

The only reason I can think of for this to be mistaken like this is that to a Republican if you aren't one, you go into this vast soup of political names.  You are either a Republican or a Fascist, Communist, Anarchist, Monarchist, Wobblie, Freethinker, Liberal, Democratic left wing loony.

Fox did several stories last week on protestors at the Democratic convention.
