Is the "cash cab" a threat to public safety?

In the show cash cab, a cab driver asks his passengers questions. It is a game show on wheels. The taxi driver is asking questions while driving. Isn't his divided attention a threat to the public safety of the citizens of New York?

  1. Yes, it is a threat to public safety, and I am sure that insurance for a cab on a show like this is tremendously high.


  2. Cab drivers need to talk to passengers to find out where they are going and take directions as neccessary. This too can be considered as "divided attention," however it is necessary for Cab drivers to get their customers to their locations.

  3. The drive does have an earpiece and is feed information from the producers.  It is no more distracting than having a bluetooth earbud and talking on the phone.

  4. Yes, its just another driver that is not paying attention to rules of the road.

  5. I have often wondered about this myself.  I have a feeling he has a ear piece to help him but I'm not sure.  Plus the traffic in New York goes pretty slow so I don't think it's much of a danger.
