Is the "file reference no" different to the "passport no" ?? can i find out one if i know d other??

  1. Yes both are different.

    If your passport request is in progress then you might not be having any passport number but still having a valid "file reference no".

    .

    The "file reference no" is also unique and is used by the passport authority before issuing a passport to any individual.

    "File reference no." uniquely identifies a person when his passport processing(verification and all) is in progress

    Even those people whose passport finally gets rejected they too have a "file reference no".

    Passport no. is issued once all verification is done and your passport request has been approved completely.

    After your passport has been released you can  find out one if u know the other

  2. File no. and passport no. are different. Passport no. on page 1 and file no. on last page. File no. shows year also.

    Yes again, you can find one if you have the other, just call the nearby Passport office or on their website.
