  1. Racism in Brazil is very mild if compaired to USA.

In Brazil the discrimination is more towards your financial status than your skin color.

  2. Brazilian girls are hot as h**l,  Racism is in humnam nature, my dad came from Guyana and he is asain, but he told me that even though there arn't many whites there its the blacks(51%) and the indians(49%) that hate each other.  So no matter when the race racism will always exsist though it may be diffrent in other countries.  like in the middle east its more sunni vs shiites in india its the muslims vs the hindus.

  3. yes there are racism in Brazil like any other country in the world but over there its a little more open

  4. I  agree with mh2007br .

But something happens here in Brazil. Most poor people are black and most rich people are of white skin. Although we're a multiracial nation, there's some kind of racial discrimination here.

There's a kind of class system that can be seen by the color of the skin. Since poor people end up being less educated, they tend to continue being poor. And this class system tend to be the same.

Besides, people tend to make the mistake of taking poor people as criminals, because lots of criminal comes from poor areas. Needless to say that the black are the ones who suffers this kind of discrimination.

I believe that if black people had the opportunity of being educated, as they did in America, the discrimination here would be reduced.

  5. Racism is the same everywhere. In Brazil there´s racism as well as there is racism in USA, the difference is that in Brazil, almost everyone is multiracial, I think theres more tolerance because of this reason.

But people won´t disrespect or mistreat you because of your race or original background!

  6. I visited as a tourist and I am by no means an expert; however, I did go to more rural areas outside of the cities and I traveled alone. I visited the favelas and  I did not feel the same "open confinement" that I feel at home (here in the US) - meaning you can go anywhere but you are not welcomed everywhere.  I take note that a majority of the people that I saw who appeared to be homeless or poverty stricken were mostly brown skinned or dark skinned people.  I am black and I felt very comfortable there and I am extremely sensitive to the issue living in one of the most segregated places in the US.  If you are going as a tourist or even to live for a while, I don't think even the institutional racism (things that may be "wrong" but that we have just come to accept as that is how its always been) that we sometimes experience will take away from your stay.

  7. I have to agree with mh2007br 100%

Discrimination in Brazil is much more related to financial status.

The vast majority of people are mixed.

President Fernando Henrique Cardoso once said that he had "a foot in the kitchen", which is a racial comment, if you are a PC neurotic. He only ment to say he was mixed.

Roberto Marinho, who was founder and owner if Globo (TV, Newspapers) was often refered to as "Mulato Roberto" by the tradicional upper class.

It is diferent than the US, yes, and Europe as well.

  8. There is racism in Brazil, but different from the USA. I would not say it is better or worst, just different. The concept of race used in the USA is different from ours. Here we consider mostly the color of skin, not exactly race. Few people here can consider themselves 100% white or 100% black, for most of us are mixed blood. But the color of skin makes a big difference, and people with dark skin can definitely suffer from prejudice. On the other hand, we have no open segregation, and even writing or saying racist statements can be punished with prision. 9. according to this site it is worse in Brazil....

  10. I guess brazilian people can answer this question better but from my point of view (been there as a tourist with some black friends) the kind of racism I've seen is rather socio economical discrimination which is not racism as racism is race discrimination. In Brazil there are lots of prominent black people and it's the country where Ive seen the biggest amount of interracial marriages. It's more a matter of social status and not race. In the US there is still a lot of racism going on, from whites to blacks and from blacks to whites. Brazilian society is more integrated in that sense.
