We are due to travel to Naples mid August and wanted to know if the refuse crisis was over, last I heard US Embassy was advising people to avoid the area, however I have also read reports that the crisis is over and the rubbish clean up had commenced.

  1. I was in Naples last week and although it's not as bad as it was (I was also there in May) it is much better, the cleanup has definitely started. I will be there again in August and am not worrying about it.

  2. i'm italian..i live in turin..and i can say you that naples is orrible and dangerous...it's dirty... but the sea is nice...excuse me for my grammar..

  3. i'm napolitan (exuse me for my English)...the refuses crisis is over...Naples il beautiful and the people is hot and nice...

    :D:D

  5. bhoooo... i hope, but in Naples the refuses crisis was caused by mafia, that is the really and only problem of Italy.

  6. not completely... but the best part of Naples is the centre....

if you sleep in Sorrento or Salerno you can will go in Naples by train (half hour) and sleep near the sea in a really wonderful places... (near there is also Pompeii)

    ciao from Italy

  7. Hi, i'm writing from Naples, now the situation is ok but i can't tell about the next month.Even if during the crisis in the center and up the hill there were no problems, the suburbs was full of hill of rubbish.Enjoy you trip remember only " not show Rolex or jewels" not go into the little streets near the central station and don't buy valuable things by the way.

  8. As of July 11, 2007: <*-*>

The U.S. Embassy in Rome is warning Americans traveling to Naples and its surrounding region they may face health risks from a garbage crisis that has left rubbish piling up in the streets.

  9. I was there two weeks ago, and it wasn't cleaned up at that point.  If they haven't cleaned it up, I suggest not going.  It was hard to walk along the sidewalks due to the garbage.

  10. no, and it will not be over any soon. they have such a big problem there because the 750,000 millions of euro (about $ 1,400,000,000) allocated to the  fiscal year 2007 has "vanished". nobody knows in whose pockets it went......take a guess? as such, it is getting worst by the day. stay absolutely away from Naples and vicinities. the garbage is piled up to 10-12 feet high. now, the sides of the roads that take in-out of Naples are also getting piled with garbage mounts. the garbage mounts have reached even the base of the Vesuvius Vulcan. what a disgrace. and i say this even being born in Italy. you must also know that for centuries Naples has had the reputation of being the filthiest city not just in Italy, but in the whole world.
