There were a few people upset recently when the BHA announced a ban on jockeys remounting after a fall in races. As ever there are persuasive arguments on both sides but the logic really sides with the ban. If a jockey has a fall he must pass the racecourse doctor before being allowed to ride again and, similarly, a horse will be checked over by a racecourse vet before leaving the track. Therefore it makes sense that a horse should not continue in a race after a fall because it is impossible for even the most experienced of riders to make an immediate assessment of any potential injury to a horse.
